A shocking case of domestic violence emerged in Ward No. 16 of Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality, where police arrested a woman for attacking her live-in partner with a knife. The accused, identified as Pratima Das, allegedly stabbed Shyamal Das in the eye following a heated argument.
According to locals, the couple had been living together for nearly 12 years without marriage but were considered husband and wife in the neighborhood. Recently, Shyamal had grown close to another woman, which reportedly triggered frequent disputes. On Sunday, one such argument escalated, leading to the violent attack.
Shyamal was rushed to the hospital by neighbors and remains under treatment. A written complaint was lodged at Sonarpur police station, following which Pratima was arrested. Police said they are interrogating her to uncover the full sequence of events.
The incident has left the locality in shock, with residents saying it is deeply disturbing to see a 12-year relationship ending in such violence. Investigators are now focusing on whether long-standing tensions led to the attack.
